Summary:
Defending champion Franklin Little League routed its three state tournament opponents by a combined 35-5 margin to easily repeat as Pennsylvania state champions. Franklin opened the tournament by tagging Lehigh Little League pitchers for six first- and six second-inning runs in a 14-0 victory. Matt Miller (RBI single, two-run homer) and Andy Harriger (single, double, homer, and five RBIs) led the charge.
In its next outing against Newtown-Edgmont Little League, second baseman Andy Frederick (4-for-4) set the tone by slamming the game's first pitch over the centerfield fence. Pitcher Tony Harvot fanned 11 and allowed only two singles.
In the title game, Newtown was again no match for the Franklin offense. Adam Huan's two-run single capped a four run rally in the first inning and back-to-back homers by Harriger (a three-run shot) and winning pitcher Kevin Mong gave Franklin a 9-0 lead after two innings. Miller and Haun added back-to-back homers in the fourth.
