Summary:
Council Rock Newtown Little League pitchers Tom Whalen and Carl Albrecht allowed only two runs over three games as their team swept to its first state title. Whalen limited Camp Hill Little League to one run in a complete game victory in the opening round, and then held Latrobe Little League to a single tally in the championship game. Albrecht surrendered only one hit as he shut out Latrobe in the winner's bracket finals.
In the title game, Latrobe's Tony Lancianese belted a second inning homer to give his team the early lead, then Council Rock's bats went to work. Third baseman Ryan Fielder lofted a homer over the left field fence to tie the game in the third, and then launched a 235 foot, three-run homer in the fourth to put Council Rock on top for good. Council Rock later bunched four hits together to add three insurance runs in the fifth.
