Summary:
Benjy Gordon's three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning capped a five run rally, and helped his DuBois Little League team overcome a 2-0 Abington Little League lead as DuBois earn its second state championship in three years. Abington jumped to a 2-0 lead on Jeff Pivovarnik's two-out, two-run single in the fourth, but DuBois rallied in the fifth. RBI doubles by Lou Russell and Bub Maietta tied the game. Scott Frano was intentionally walked, then Gordon drove a 1-0 pitch over the right-centerfield fence to supply the winning runs.
In the semifinals, DuBois rapped out 14 hits and capitilized on the difficulties Uptown Little League had in fielding bunts to eliminate the defending state champions 15-0. Maietta threw a two-hit shutout, while Gordon's three-run homer in the fifth widened DuBois' lead to 10-0. Abington survived a lead-off triple in the sixth inning to edge Minersville Little League, 1-0, in the other semifinal.
