Summary:
Jimmy Malseed fired a one-hitter and third baseman Mike Flanigan provided the offense with a two-run single in the fifth inning as Media Little League defeated Potter McKean Little League, 2-0, in the state championship game. Malseed allowed only a broken-bat infield single to Potter McKean's Bill Maxson in the first inning before throwing a no-hitter the rest of the way.
In the semifinals, third baseman Tom Peppler homered on the first pitch in the bottom of the sixth inning to snap a 1-1 tie and give Media a 2-1 victory over Duquesne National Little League. Peppler had driven in the game's first run with a first inning single, while winning pitcher Al Gollatz struck out eight and allowed only an unearned run.
In the other semifinal, Potter McKean took advantage of five errors to defeat Tarentum-Brackenridge Little League 5-3. Winning pitcher Steve Kudlock struck out seven and scattered five hits. Tarentum's George Klucinec hit a three-run homer in the sixth inning to break up the shutout.

NOTE: Duquesne National’s win over New Brighton took place over three days and involved two protests. Duquesne’s pitcher had thrown six innings on Monday, July 29, in a 6-2 district championship game win over Morningside. He then pitched the first six innings on Friday, August 2, against New Brighton.
That game went into extra innings tied at 1-1. When the pitcher continued to pitch in the seventh, and retired the inning’s first two batters, New Brighton protested this as a violation of the 12 inning per week maximum allowed under international tournament rules at the time, and produced evidence to support this. Tournament officials agreed, stopped the game, and awarded New Brighton a forfeit win. New Brighton then prepared to face Mill Creek-Seneca in the sectional championship game, which was scheduled for Monday, August 5.
However, Duquesne National protested the forfeit directly to Little League national officials in Williamsport, and, in a closed-door meeting that New Brighton was not aware of, the forfeit was reversed. When New Brighton arrived to travel to their game on Monday, August 5, they were informed that they would be traveling to complete the game with Duquesne, which was treated as a suspended game. Duquesne scored one run in the eighth to win the game, and then defeated Mill Creek-Seneca the next evening to win the tournament.
District 3 leagues and officials expressed strong displeasure with the decision to Little League officials, demanding to know why a proper administration of the rules was reversed, but these protests were dismissed and Duquesne continued in the tournament.
