Vermont is home to four Little League districts, and the champions of these districts convene each year for a double-elimination state tournament that determines the Green Mountain state's champion. For many years, all Vermont leagues competed in a single district, and a handful of area tournament champions advanced to the state tournament. However, in 1991, a separate district was formed for Southern Vermont leagues, and the following year Northern Vermont leagues were reorganized into three districts.
The Vermont state champions advance to the New England region tournament in Bristol, Connecticut. The New England champion then advances to the Little League World Series in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
No Vermont league has ever participated in the Little League World Series, although a pair of leagues have come within a game of qualifying for Little League Baseball's fall classic. North Burlington Little League reached the Eastern Region championship game in 1981, and the South Burlington Little League reached the New England Region title game in 2001.
