Summary:

South Burlington Little League scored double-digit runs for the third consecutive game, and toppled Brattleboro Little League, 12-4, in the Vermont state championship game at Legion Field in St. Johnsbury.

The win, South Burlington's tenth in as many games against Vermont competition in the international tournament, gave the District 1 champions their third Vermont championship in the major baseball division in a four-year span, and their fifth overall. South Burlington advanced to the New England Region tournament in Bristol, Connecticut.

Brattleboro jumped to an early lead in the state championship game, as Shane Cyr belted a two-run homer in the top of the first inning. But South Burlington quickly responded with three runs in the bottom of the frame, as Seamus McGrath, Mason DeKlesch, and Aaron Murakami all delivered run-scoring hits.

In the second, McGrath's two-run double and DeKlesch's two-run single sparked a five-run burst, as South Burlington expanded their lead to 8-2 before cruising to the win.

McGrath and DeKlesch each had three hits for South Burlington, while James Patrick added a pair of singles. Cyr and Henry Thurber each homered for Brattleboro.

South Burlington pitcher Noah Antonucci struck out eight hitters, and threw a complete game in his first start at the state tournament.

South Burlington opened the state tournament with a 15-0 win over Montpelier Little League. The next day, the District 1 champions rallied back from an early deficit to top Brattleboro, 12-7. Cyr's three-run homer and Nick Bingham's run-scoring single gave Brattleboro a 4-0 lead in the second inning, but South Burlington boomeranged into the lead with a nine-run rally in the third. Antonucci homered twice in the inning, and Ben Mazza-Bergeron also homered.

Brattleboro dropped to the elimination bracket with the loss, but earned a rematch with South Burlington by eliminating Northwest Little League from Swanton, 7-2. The win advanced Brattleboro into the state championship game for the second time in four years, and for a record 25th time overall.
