First-time state tournament qualifier Greater San Marcos rallied for four runs in the sixth inning of the tournament's final game, and then held on to defeat perennial District 19 power San Antonio McAllister Park American 7-4 to win the 1999 Texas state tournament.

The championship game was the third meeting between San Marcos and McAllister Park. The teams first met in the winner's bracket finals, when left-hander Ernest Lozano homered twice and tossed a four-inning no-hitter as the Greys routed McAllister Park 12-0.

San Marcos struck early and often in the victory. Lozano, Zachory Radford, and Noel Juarez each singled in the first inning, as San Marcos opened the scoring with a single tally. Lozano's first homer, a three-run blow, widened the lead to 4-0 in the second; he later added a solo blast that ignited a seven run rally in the fourth. Simon Guardiola's grand slam capped the uprising. Lozano earned the shutout despite issuing nine walks in the four-inning game.

McAllister Park earned a rematch with San Marcos by eliminating Sinton 8-7. San Antonio opened an early 6-1 lead, and later prevailed after Sinton rallied to force extra innings. Anthony Vasquez had a two-run homer for McAllister Park, while Nick Fannuzi was 4-for-4 at the plate. Sinton was paced by homers from Wesley Fagan and Daniel Ramirez.

McAllister Park forced the tournament's 'if' game by defeating San Marcos 5-2 in the first championship game. Vasquez drilled a three-run homer in the second and scored three runs as the District 19 champions opened a 5-0 lead and survived a last-ditch San Marcos rally to claim the victory. Lozano had three hits for San Marcos in a losing effort, while Eric Ormond hurled five solid innings of relief to pick up the victory for the Americans.

San Marcos used the longball to open an early lead in the second championship game. Lozano led off the third with a homer, and Rene Barboza and Michael Maldonado also hit round-trippers in the inning to stake the Greys to a 3-0 lead. McAllister rallied to tie the game, but a defensive collapse in the sixth led to a four-run rally that propelled San Marcos to the win. In that rally, Juarez and Guardiola singled, and were on second and third with no outs. Jeremy Reichel grounded sharply to third, and, after the McAllister infielder looked the runners back to their bases, beat the throw to first. From there, the play became a nightmare for San Antonio. On the throw to first, Juarez sprinted home, and arrived safely before the throw from first to home. When the first baseman threw home, Reichel and Guardiola advanced to second and third. Finally, when the catcher threw to second in an attempt to throw out Reichel, Guardiola scored to give the Greys a 5-3 lead. Reichel later scored on a sacrifice bunt, and Lozano capped the scoring with a solo home run over the centerfield fence.

Lozano scattered three hits and struck out ten in earning his second complete game win over McAllister Park, and his third win of the tournament.

San Marcos opened the state tournament with a come-from-behind victory over Lubbock Southwest. Reichel's two-run homer in the second negated an early Lubbock lead, and the Greys then added single tallies in the third and fifth to pull out a 4-2 win. Lozano overpowered the District 2 champions, finishing with 14 strikeouts in a complete-game effort.

San Marcos used a more dramatic rally to defeat Waco Lake Air on the tournament's second day. The hometown favorites used homers from first baseman Ryan Bachik and catcher Paul Coffee to take a 5-1 lead before San Marcos rallied for five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull out a dramatic 6-5 win. A Barbosa home run cut the deficit to 5-2, and a hit batter, Reichel's single, and Jason Flores' walk then loaded the bases with nobody out. Ricky Urrutia drew a bases-loaded walk that sliced the deficit to 5-3, and Lozano followed with a double that tied the game. Radford then dropped a squeeze bunt down the first base line. Urritia broke late for the plate and appeared as though he would be out, but he instead kicked the ball out of the catcher's mitt to score safely and complete San Marcos' comeback.

McAllister Park advanced to the winner's bracket finals with a pair of one-run wins. Vasquez outdueled Houston North Shore's Aaron Solls 1-0 in an opening round pitcher's duel, and McAllister Park then clipped Sinton 4-3 before falling to San Marcos.

San Marcos earned its first ever trip to the Texas state tournament by winning four games in the loser's bracket after dropping its opener in the Section 4 Tournament at Hallettsville. San Marcos avenged its opening round loss by sweeping Fredericksburg 5-2 and 4-2 to earn the trip to Waco for the state tournament.
