Summary:

Spring Northwest 45 National won five consecutive games in the loser's bracket -- including a Sunday afternoon doubleheader sweep of Bryan National East -- to capture the Texas state title en route to winning the U.S. championship at Williamsport. In the doubleheader sweep, Wardell Starling hit a three-run homer that fueled a nine-run third inning (one of three Spring homers in the inning), then pitched five innings in the nightcap. Kris DuConge struck out nine and allowed only two hits in the first title matchup. In its loss to Weatherford, Spring scored nine times in the third inning to take a 12-5 lead, but Weatherford struck back for three, three, and two runs over the last three innings to pull out the victory.
