Summary:

Rich Lockard paced Berwick to a pair of victories as his club captured its first ever state title. Lockard fired a three-hitter and homered to lead Berwick past Lionville in the semifinals, and his third inning homer in the title game keyed Berwick past Connellsville. It marked the only time in six appearances spanning four decades that a Connellsville team was defeated at the state tournament.
