NOTE: The Oil City-Wyoming semifinal was suspended due to darkness after eight innings with the score tied 5-5. The next morning, Oil City won in ten innings, and later that day, the consolation and championship round games were held. The consolation game was stopped after five innings to allow the championship game to start on time.
Summary:
Oil City Little League advanced to the state championship game for the second consecutive year, but could not derail a Newtown-Edgmont Little League team that eventually reached the Little League World Series.
Newtown-Edgmont edged Latrobe in the first semifinal game, and Oil City and Wyoming then played to a 5-5 tie before darkness forced officials to suspend the game after eight innings. After a scoreless ninth the following morning, Oil City rallied for three runs in the tenth to pull out the win. Later that day, Newtown-Edgmont's Michael Allen nearly single-handedly ousted Oil City. Allen homered twice, and also turned in an 11-strikeout, five hit performance on the mound. Daniel Kelly, Thomas Rotolini, and Steven Orenshaw also had two hits for Newtown-Edgmont.
Newtown-Edgmont later won the Eastern Region tournament and eventually finished third at the Little League World Series following a 4-1 semifinal loss to eventual champion West Tokyo (Japan) Little League.
