Summary:
Levittown American Little League turned a pair of clutch double plays and made the most of its four title game hits as it defeated Dunmore 3-1 to win its third state title in six years. Levittown's leadoff hitters reached base in the second, third, and fifth innings, and in each instance the Americans came away with single run tallies. Mark Schimpf singled in the first run, Rusty Smith's homer (Levittown's 28th in nine playoff games) accounted for the second, and Ron Vasso's RBI single plated the third.
Meanwhile, Levittown pitchers Dave Sellers and Schimpf escaped danger in nearly every inning. Dunmore left the bases loaded in the first inning, and had runners in scoring position as the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings ended. Schimpf ended the game by getting Dunmore leadoff hitter Tom Sohn to hit into a game-ending double play with the tying run on base.
In the semifinals, Smith, Roger Cicconi, and Rich Matecki all homered as Levittown American pulled away from Farrell National, while Dunmore came from behind to eliminate Natrona Heights.
