Summary:

Joe Mormello and Jules Kalkstein pitched Levittown American to state, regional, and Little League World Series titles in a 13-game run through the 1960 international tournament. In the state tournament semifinals, Mormello struck out 20 batters and allowed only two hits in Levittown's 3-2, eight inning victory over Plains. Chet Gardner's two-run homer gave Levittown an early 2-0 lead before Plains shortstop Ronnie Timko knotted the score with a solo homer in the third and an RBI double in the fourth. The score remained 2-2 until the bottom of the eighth, when Roland Clark and Kalkstein roped back-to-back doubles to give Levittown the win.

Punxsutawney Groundhog Little League advanced to the title game on pitcher John Spinelli's two-hit complete game victory over Hazlewood.

In the championship game, Kalkstein limited Punxsutawney to two hits, and Levittown scored in each of the game's first three innings to pull away with a 7-1 victory. Kalkstein tripled and scored to open the game, while Don Bickel and Kalkstein added RBI singles in the second. Bickel added a two-run single in the third, and Joe Fioranti laced a two-run homer in the fifth.

Levittown American went on to capture the Eastern Region tournament in Staten Island, New York, by defeating Little League of the Islips (New York) 10-0 -- Mormello struck out 16 and threw a no-hitter -- and Newton West Little League (Massachusetts), 3-1. Kalkstein scattered two hits and Mormello slammed a two-run homer in the first inning to give Levittown an early lead in the title game.

Mormello and Kalkstein then led Levittown to three consecutive wins and a Little League World Series title. Mormello set a Little League World Series record (since broken) by striking out 17 batters in a 5-2 win over Pearl Harbor (Hawaii) Little League in the quarterfinals and Kalkstein scattered four hits in a sloppy 9-1 semifinal win over the New Boston Kiwanis (Ohio) Little League. Mormello capped the tournament run by striking out 16 and hurling a no-hitter in the 5-0 championship game victory over the Fort Worth Northeast Optimist (Texas) Little League.
