Summary:

After scoring 31 runs -- to this day, the most ever in a Pennsylvania state tournament game -- in their semifinal round win over Clearfield, Lock Haven Little League used three home runs to defeat Williamsport Original in the state championship game.

Lock Haven opened the tournament by squeaking past Montgomery 1-0 in the state tournament's first game. Losing pitcher Bob Farley struck out 14 and allowed only one hit, but Lock Haven manufactured a fourth inning run on two errors, a wild pitch, and a passed ball. Winning pitcher Steve Romeo struck out 10 and scattered three hits for Lock Haven.

Clearfield also won its opener 1-0, but the game was postponed by rain and played on the same day as the two semifinal matchups. After Clearfield pitcher Jack Poole shut out Athens on two hits, he came back that afternoon to face Lock Haven. Lock Haven pounded 22 hits against Poole and two other pitchers, and capitalized on eight Clearfield errors while ringing up a 31-4 win. John Englert and Bob Bubb homered in the rout.

In the title game, Paul Walker (two-run homer) and Englert (solo homer) staked Lock Haven to an early 3-0 lead before Romeo's two-run blast in the fifth capped the scoring. Romeo scattered three hits and was again the winning pitcher.
