Paseo Verde Little League jumped to a 3-0 lead before Mountain Ridge Little League came to the plate, and held on for a 6-4 victory in the deciding game of the Nevada state tournament at Arroyo Grande Sports Complex in Henderson.

The victory reversed Mountain Ridge's 10-2 victory the previous day in the first championship series matchup, and moved Paseo Verde into the West Region tournament in San Bernardino, California.

Paseo Verde loaded the bases in the top of the first, and after Mountain Ridge recorded the inning's second out, scored three unearned runs. The first scored on a passed ball and the others came across on a two-run single. Solo home runs to lead off the second and third helped to open a 6-0 advantage, before Mountain Ridge narrowed the gap with two in the fifth and two more in the sixth.

Will Robinson led off the fifth with a solo home run, and Kelsen Jensen had a two-run shot in the sixth.

The win gave Paseo Verde its second state championship in the major baseball division, and its first since 2008. The matchup was a reprise of the 2014 Nevada state championship game, which Mountain Ridge won by defeating Paseo Verde 7-3 en route to the United States championship at the Little League World Series.

The two leagues have met for the Nevada title four times in an eight-year span, with each league winning two of the meetings.

Paseo Verde opened the tournament with a 16-3 victory over Fernley's High Desert Little League, then reached the championship round when a sixth inning home run lifted the District 2 winners past Northern Nevada's Washoe Little League, 4-3.

Mountain Ridge emerged from the bottom bracket following an opening game loss to Washoe. Mountain Ridge led the contest 9-3 entering the bottom of the sixth inning, but Washoe scored seven times, and ended the game when a three-run home run with two outs and a full count on the batter reversed a 9-7 Mountain Ridge lead.

The District 4 winners then overpowered High Desert, 22-0 -- seven different players homered in the game, with David Corbett and Sam Simon each clearing the fences twice -- and then pushed past Washoe, 7-5. Washoe led the game 6-5 entering the bottom of the fifth when Mountain Ridge scored twice to take the lead. Corbett delivered a solo home run beyond the center field fence with one out, and Landon Hare followed with an RBI double that scored Travis Rice.

The next evening, Mountain Ridge needed just five innings to topple Paseo Verde, 13-3, and force the tournament to a deciding game. Paseo Verde scratched for a first inning run, but Mountain Ridge responded with five in the second inning before adding multiple runs in each of the next three frames. Corbett's three-run homer to center capped Mountain Ridge's second inning rally, while Blayne Truman added a two-run homer in the third and Branson Tressler delivered a two-run double in the fifth.

Paseo Verde won one of its three contests in the double-elimination West Region tournament, and finished in fourth place following a 14-3 loss to eventual region runner-up Waipio Little League (Waipahu, Hawaii) in an elimination contest.
