Summary:

Green Valley Little League scored all of its runs in the second inning and defeated Peccole Little League, 12-1, in the Nevada state championship game at Silverado Ranch Park in Las Vegas.

The rally helped lift Green Valley to its third victory in as many nights following a loss to the same team earlier in the tournament. The Henderson-based league advanced to the West Region tournament in San Bernardino, California, with the victory.

Phil McGovern singled to open Green Valley's decisive inning. Brett Haney and Mitch Parker then walked to load the bases, and both McGovern and Haney scored on wild pitches to spark the rally. Ten more runs eventually crossed the plate, with McGovern driving in a pair of runs and also scoring a second time before the inning ended.

"This is just so great," said Green Valley manager Greg Morris after his team clinched the eighth major baseball state championship in the league's history. "These kids have worked really hard to get here, and now it's on to San Bernardino."

Green Valley earned its second win over Peccole in as many nights in the title game. The previous evening, McGovern hit a pair of solo home runs to pace his team to a 6-1 victory that forced the tournament to a final game.

Both Green Valley and Peccole opened the tournament with victories, then Peccole edged their Las Vegas-area counterparts, 4-3, in the winner's bracket final.

Green Valley earned a rematch by rebounding to pull away late in a 14-4 victory over Elko Little League in the elimination bracket final. Elko rallied to take a 4-3 lead in the third inning, but Green Valley took command with seven runs in the fourth. The win lifted Green Valley into the state championship game for the eleventh time in the league's history.

Green Valley won three of its four pool games at the West Region tournament before being edged by Southern California champion Solana Beach Little League, 3-2, in the semifinal round.
