Summary:

Peccole overpowered three opponents by a 29-6 margin to win the 2002 Nevada state tournament at Carson Valley Little League's Lampe Park in Gardnersville.

Peccole's major baseball all-stars became the first state champion to emerge from District 4 in the four year timespan since the district was created. The league also won the Nevada state championship in the junior baseball division in 2002, and the Peccole 9-10 year old baseball all-stars finished as the state's runner-up.

Peccole opened the state tournament with a 12-0 win over Silverada. Perry Martin's three-run homer highlighted a five run rally in the second inning, and Justin Truex struck out seven in three shutout innings to pick up the win. Andrew Garcia had three hits and Paul Sewald added two more for Peccole, which held Silverada to only two hits.

Washoe also won their opening round game, upending Green Valley 11-0 in four innings on Jacob Anderson's no-hitter. Peccole had more success against Washoe pitching, however, and downed the first-time District 1 champions 10-2 to move into the championship game.

Green Valley, which came within a game of the Little League World Series in 2001, then avenged their earlier defeat by handing Washoe a 2-1 defeat in the loser's bracket finals.

In the title game, Peccole handed the ball to Landry Peterson, who came through with a complete game effort to help his league claim its first-ever major baseball state title with a 7-4 win. Peterson also drove in a pair of runs, and Taylor Cole homered for the winners. Sewald also contributed a pair of hits.

Peccole reached the state tournament only after emerging from the loser's bracket in the District 4 tournament. Peccole used the long ball while sweeping a pair of games from Cheyenne Little League in the championship series, winning the first meeting 10-7 and then taking the 'if' game by a 15-7 margin. Martin ripped three home runs and Sewald added one to highlight the Peccole attack in the first contest. In the rematch, Peccole used three-run homers from Truex and Cole to extend a 7-6 lead and close out the tournament.

At the Western Region Tournament in San Bernardino, California, Peccole split four pool games to reach the semifinal round before falling 4-3 in eight innings to Arrowhead Little League (Glendale, Arizona).
