Illinois State Champions in the 1950s

The Kankakee Jaycees were an active participant in the earliest Illinois state tournaments. The 1957 Jaycee all-star team was one out away from winning the state title before Lyons-McCook rallied on a game-ending home run. The next year, the Jaycees won both state and North Region titles and won a pair of games at the World Series before losing the World Series championship game to Hector Torres and the Monterrey (Mexico) Industrial LL team.

The next year, the Jaycees played a different role: host league. Four teams traveled to Chet Yoakum Field on Kankakee's north side for the state tournament, and Elgin National won the first of its three state titles by defeating Forest Park in the title game.
